Sandies Bathala

Sandies Bathala has always been at the forefront of sustainability, and in September 2024, they took a significant step forward with the successful planting of 100 reef stars as part of their BathaStar Build 2024 project.

Background

Bathala believes that true sustainability encompasses not only environmental stewardship but also social and economic dimensions. Their commitment extends beyond adopting eco-friendly practices to actively benefiting the staff and the local community. By involving local initiatives and fostering a thriving environment for all, Sandies Bathala aim to create a holistic impact and strive to raise guests’ awareness about sustainability, ensuring that their efforts contribute to a more informed and responsible approach to tourism.

In 2024, under the training of Dr Inga Dehnert who is a certified MARRS method restoration practitioner, Sandies Bathala installed a pilot of 100 Reef Stars. Following the success of the pilot, Sandies Bathala have implemented a program where guests can affordably sponsor a reef star and gain hands on experience by helping the team to attach coral fragments to the reef stars. Sandies Bathala have installed a total of 153 reef stars as of July 2025 and continue to expand their restoration site.
