It’s about being mindful of the impact we have on the world around us and taking responsibility for it together.
Cora Cora launched an ambitious 5-year coral restoration project and in 2024 a partnership was initiated between Mars Sustainable Solutions and Cora Cora Resort in Raa Atoll in the Maldives to restore their house reef at a significant scale.
Together with MARS Trainers, resort staff & management, TGI Maldives, guests and partners Cora Cora installed a pilot of 120 Reef Stars outplanting 1,800 coral fragments that were “rescued” from a nearby island reclamation project. Since then, Cora Cora have established small nurseries to accommodate rescued corals and have added an additional 71 Reef Stars as part of several guest engagement and education activities.
The visit was successful in allowing the MSS team to deliver MARRS competency training to two team members of TGI Maldives facilitating the expansion of Mars’ Maldives strategic plan to help restore this vital ecosystem upon which Maldives, and island nation, depends entirely upon for its survival.
Cora Cora’s 2025 restoration plan will expand their initial efforts by installing an additional 650 Reef Stars into 2 sites and with a further 3 years of restoration plans, Cora Cora will become one of the largest MARRS restoration sites in the Maldives, showing other resorts that affordable and scalable restoration is possible.
