Constance Moofushi

Constance Moofushi Maldives partners with Mars Sustainable Solutions to restore the coral reefs.

Rising from the turquoise waters of the South Ari Atoll, Constance Moofushi marked a milestone that truly reflected the heart of Constance Hotels & Resorts, celebrating 50 years of True Hospitality through meaningful action and care for the natural world. In partnership with Mars Sustainable Solutions (MSS), the organisation behind the Mars MARS Assisted Reef Restoration System (MARRS), the resort reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to protecting and restoring marine ecosystems across the Indian Ocean.

Partnership With Mars Sustainable Solutions

As part of this initiative, Constance Moofushi restored more than 100 square metres of coral reef and outplanted over 1,500 coral fragments using the innovative MARRS method, a science-based approach dedicated to regenerating the world’s coral reefs and enhancing biodiversity beneath the waves.

Using 100 Reef Stars - coral-sand-coated hexagonal structures, with coral fragments attached - the resort’s trained marine team installed & interconnected Reef Stars designed to restore the ecological function of Moofushi’s house reef, nurturing a vibrant marine ecosystem and ensuring its legacy for generations to come.

“Collaborating with Constance Moofushi is a powerful example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships, enabling science-based coral reef restoration that is aligned with a long-term vision and a sustained commitment to ocean stewardship. Through the MARRS framework, we’re restoring coral ecosystems that will thrive for generations, while inspiring global travellers to value the delicate beauty of our reefs.”

Mars Sustainable Solutions

At Hope Reef, Mars’ flagship site in Indonesia, Reef Stars have helped boost coral cover from under 5% to over 70%, with a 58% increase in the number of fish species (according to Mars monitoring data). Globally, the Mars team and its partners have deployed over 100,000 Reef Stars, planted more than 1.5 million coral fragments, and engaged partners in 72 reef sites across 12 countries and five continents.  The installing of 100 Reef Stars - 50 each day over two days - stood as a living tribute to five decades of heartfelt hospitality and Constance Hotels & Resorts’ enduring connection to nature.

As we mark 50 years of Constance Hotels & Resorts, we look towards the future with gratitude and responsibility. Through this partnership, we aim not only to restore coral life but to inspire our guests and team members to become active guardians of our oceans.”
