The 2025 Impact Report is here!

In 2024, coral restoration was about adaptation — learning how to survive in a rapidly changing ocean.

In 2025, it became something far more powerful. This was the year of Reef Builders.

🌊THE YEAR OF REEF BUILDERS: The Mars Coral Reef Restoration Program 2025 Impact Report is here! 🪸

As we kick-off the New Year, we are SO proud to spotlight the incredible progress Mars Sustainable Solutions, the Sheba Hope Grows™ program and our partners have made across 2025 in protecting and restoring vital coral reef ecosystems.

Across 17 countries, a global community of scientists, local leaders, NGOs, tourism operators, and community members stepped into the water to actively rebuild coral reefs. Using the Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System (MARRS), degraded coral rubble fields were transformed into living reefs. More than 15,000 Reef Stars were installed and 225,000 corals outplanted in 2025 alone, expanding restoration to 28 new sites across 11 countries. Today, the program now supports 124 active restoration sites in 17 countries, forming one of the largest coral restoration networks on Earth.

Scientific monitoring showed that restored reefs are becoming real ecosystems again. Coral cover continues to rise, unstable rubble is disappearing, and fish populations are returning in force, with dramatic increases in fish abundance, biomass, and species diversity across restored sites. Even the sound of the reef has changed. AI-powered acoustic monitoring confirmed that restored reefs are growing louder at night, a sign of healthy, functioning ecosystems attracting young fish and invertebrates.

Behind every Reef Star and coral fragment is a person. In 2025, 67 new Reef Builders were trained, alongside six new global MARRS trainers, expanding restoration capacity where it matters most. From Indonesia’s first all-women Reef Builder training to new teams in Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Colombia and the Caribbean, local leaders are now equipped to restore and protect their own reefs.

This human story reached the world through Reef Builders, the SHEBA® brand’s new documentary, which brought millions of viewers into the lives of the people rebuilding reefs on the frontlines of climate change. Through film, gaming, global conferences and hands-on programs, coral reefs moved from distant ecosystems to something personal, something people could be part of.
